Ultra Violet, Oceanside and Deep Onyx are a few of the bold colors of 2018 that will dominate. This year, designers are expecting homeowners to take their home accents to a new level. With Glidden’s 2018 Color of the Year, Black Onyx, you might be a little intimidated to paint your entire room black. But interior designers are saying it is a great way to create a contemporary feel when paired with white and metallic accents. Pantone announced their selection - Ultra Violet, and described it as a dramatic, provocative and thoughtful shade of purple. As a home color, it could be used to style up an outdoor patio space or even in your kitchen paired with neutral colors.
I am particularly fond of Sherwin-William’s color, Oceanside - it is one of my favorite colors. They describe it as “a complex, deep color that offers a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown”. I can attest to that statement when earlier this year I was helping a buyer find her dream home. I thought we were in for a marathon home search when actually, the second home we visited was IT - the dream home. You know when you walk into a home and you are just filled with that feeling – you can’t quite describe it but you just know. (I tell buyer’s all the time that sometimes you can’t explain WHY you love it, it’s just a feeling! Kind of like dating, when you know you know!) Well that was us when we walked into this kitchen. It was newly remodeled and boy was it gorgeous. The cabinets were painted a beautiful, deep teal-like color and contrasted against white appliances and a wall with floor to ceiling gray tile backsplash. It was a statement kitchen. Needless to say, we fell in love.
Now, I am an avid Chip & Joanna Gains fangirl. I love Fixer Upper and all things Magnolia. Not long after, we had finalized the purchase of ‘the kitchen’, I was perusing their website I came across one of their bed and breakfast endeavors. In one of the kitchen renovation photos, I recognized the color of cabinets right away! The same colored cabinets in the house my client had just bought!! Now this all took place this past summer before 2018 paint trends were announced. Sure enough Sherwin-Williams announced Oceanside as the 2018 color of the year. Dare I say…we might just be trend setters.
