Preparing to buy a home is very exciting! Trust me, I will be your number one fan rooting for you. But there are a few things to keep in mind that most people don’t talk about:

1) What you’re approved for isn’t always what you can afford. There’s more to life than being maxed out on a monthly mortgage payment and feeling in over your head is the last thing you want!

2) Think about resale. If you don’t plan to be there long you need to consider things other buyers will want. Think location, yard size, floor plan. Things you cannot change.

3) You can interview your lender. You might just be amazed at how much you can save by shopping around.

4) Homeownership does cost more than rent. Maybe not in your mortgage payment but potentially in maintenance costs. This is why it’s important to buy the home you can afford.

5) You are in charge. If red flags come up during the inspection do not feel bad for walking away. It’s not wasted money on an inspection, it’s spending money on an inspection to save you thousands down the road.

As with all things real estate I am ALWAYS here to help! I love questions and talking all things homeownership so don’t be afraid to reach out or pass thing along to a friend who may be looking to buy!
